When it’s cold outside what’s better than snuggling up under a blanket with a large steaming mug of hot chocolate! Thanks to winter storm Jonas I was snowed in this weekend and had plenty of time to enjoy hot chocolate and work on new recipes for the blog.
I love chocolate. I love chocolate candy, cookies, brownies, cake, mochas…I think you get the picture here. When it’s snowing or any cold winter night, I love a nice mug of hot chocolate! I’m always on the lookout for a great recipe that I can whip up in a couple minutes when the craving strikes. This recipe is just what I was looking for, it has 3 main ingredients and is extremely customizable, think adding a sprinkling of cinnamon or dash of vanilla.
Let’s talk about cocoa powder for a minute. Last year I discovered Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa powder and it is life changing. It has a deeper flavor and darker color than traditional cocoa powder and makes this dark chocolate loving girl very happy!
Hot Chocolate for One
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup milk - I use 1%
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder - see note
- 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
Instructions
- In a small sauce pan whisk the cocoa and sugar. On medium heat add 1/4 cup milk and whisk until combined.
- Add the remaining milk and whisk for 4-5 minutes or until the mixture is hot. Pour into a mug, top with whipped cream and enjoy!
